Known as the most powerful minister in Karnataka, Urban Development Minister D.K. Shivakumar has a penchant for collecting money and controversies which may land him and the ruling Congress in trouble in the coming elections.
Hardly has he come out of the Dasashrama Trust controversy when Shivkumar got into another, in which the Income Tax Department, Bangalore, has ordered payment of Rs 1.11 crore as tax by the National Education Foundation, a trust promoted by him.
The Trust, of which Shivkumar is the chairman, has also been served with a notice under section 271 (1)(c) and 271(1)(b) of the I-T Act, providing for penalty — concealing particulars of income and furnishing inaccurate details, and for not complying with various notices given to it .
