NEW DELHI, JULY 31: Air Marshal Vinod Patney was today appointed as the new Vice Chief of Air Staff in place of Air Marshal Prithvi Singh Brar, who retired after 40 years service.
Air Marshal Patney was awarded the Sarvottam Yudh Sewa Medal (SYSM) for planning air operations during the Kargil operations last year and is presently posted as the Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Central Air Command. Patney will take over as Vice Chief August 1. Air Vice Marshal Ajit Bhavnani will be promoted to Assistant Chief of Air Staff (PO).
The Air Force announced that the appointment of senior Air Force officers is to be effective from August 1. Air Marshal V.K. Verma, presently Senior Air Staff Officer (SASO) Central Air Command will succeed Patney as the Air Officer Commanding in Chief, Central Air Command.
Air Vice Marshal T.M. Asthana, has been appointed as Senior Air Staff Officer (SASO) Central Air Command and will assume charge on promotion tomorrow. Air Vice Marshal Ajit Bhavnani has been appointed as the Assistant Chief of Air Staff (personnel) at Air Headquarters on promotion.
Air Marshal P.K. Ghosh has been appointed as the new Director General Radar and Communications Projects office in succession to Air Marshal P.N. Bajaj who retired today. Air Vice Marshal D.N. Nigam, on promotion to the rank of Air Marshal, has been appointed as Senior Maintenance Staff Officer of the Air Forces Maintenance Command at Nagpur.
