New Delhi, Nov 8: The fate of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Kalyan Singh today appeared uncertain as a meeting of the BJP top brass has been convened here tomorrow by Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee to decide on the leadership issue in the state.A number of names, including that of Speaker Kesrinath Tripathi and Singh-baiter and PWD Minister Kalraj Mishra, were doing the rounds for the chief ministership.Vajpayee is slated to discuss the issue with party president Kushabhau Thakre, Home Minister L K Advani and senior party leaders from the state, including Kalyan Singh.Meanwhile Thakre told reporters it was a good sign that Singh had accepted moral responsibility for the defeat which shows that the Chief Minister is a dedicated party worker.Tripathi's name was being seriously considered as he is said to be acceptable to sulking Kalyan Singh camp as also the the allies of BJP in Uttar Pradesh.What appears to have tilted the balance against Mishra is that he had headed the dissidents campaign for removal of Singh and may not be able to carry the full party with him, the sources said.As part of attempts to pacify Kalyan Singh, he may be accommodated at the Centre alongwith Rajnath Singh in a balancing act.Singh, who had given all indications that he was prepared to step down if Vajpayee asks him to do, has been invited to the meeting tomorrow along with BJP state unit president Rajnath Singh and state ministers Lalji Tandon and Mishra.The changes in Lucknow come in the wake of the party's debacle in the Lok Sabha elections where its tally had plummeted to 29 from its earlier best of 57 in 1998 elections.
