India’s Mohammad Kaif led the Derbyshire fightback with an unbeaten 76 as the county, following on 316 behind, made 238 for five at close of play on the penultimate day of their four-day tie against Yorkshire at Derby yesterday.

Kaif, who was out for a duck in the first innings in this match, appeared to have come to terms with English conditions, occasionally unfurling elegant strokes.

Earlier in the first innings, Derbyshire were reduced to 80 for eight but stout resistance from Nathan Dumelow, who scored an unbeaten 60, carried them to 128 before they were all out.

Following on, Derbyshire had reached 238 for five at close of play.
