NEW DELHI, JULY 28: The West Bengal Chief Minister Jyoti Basu was rushed to Ram Manohar Lohia (RML) Hospital following sudden chest-pain and dizziness. He was later shifted to the Coronary Care Unit of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) for further medical check-up.The octogenarian Marxist leader from Bengal was here from Wednesday,attending the CPI-M Politburo and the Central Committee meetings at A.K. Gopalan Bhawan, the headquarters of the party.Though he was declared to be stable, the panel of cardiologists who checked Basu at AIIMS advised him to stay at the hospital for the next couple of days.Basu, who has been at the helm in West Bengal for a record 23 years, will be under observation of a team of cardiac specialists AIIMS. He was shifted from RML on suggestion of doctors who prescribed further medical investigation.According to his party members, the 87-year-old leader complained of uneasiness right after the meeting, which he was presiding, had started.Basu, who has a history of edima, was immediately rushed to the nursing home attached to RML around 10.15 a.m.Basu had been attending the party meetings despite ill-health.
