VADODARA, April 29: For some the golden jubilee rally of the M S University was just like any other celebration and for many the rally failed to serve its purpose. One person, who got caught in a traffic jam due to the rally, thought the teachers were out to celebrate the pay hike. The presence of city BJP leaders Bhupendra Lakhawala and Yogesh Patel may have contributed to his misconception.Even the student union leaders, who are very active all throughout the year, did not have anything to represent the union. When contacted, University General Secretary Prakash Verma said everything was by the students and so there wasn't any need for the union to represent itself as a separate identity. Many staff members found the rally a waste of time. One of the staff members said that the university officials should have thought of something better like having an exhibition wherein the university could invite people. ``And why should the university go around telling people about itself, when its various activities conducted throughout the year, are proof of the work done,'' he questioned, adding ``I would not have taken all the trouble if I was not a syndicate member.''Interestingly, when the rally finally assembled at the Faculty of Arts most of the participants had already made their exit and did not assemble for the final gathering. However, there were many who felt that the rally was a good way to make people aware of the M S University and its activities. Dean of the Faculty of Commerce B S Patel said, ``This is one of the few occasions, when outsiders come to know about the university.'' He suggested that the university should come together more often on such platforms referring to as one institution instead of various departments or faculties.
