The condition of former Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Ajit Jogi, who was admitted to Escorts Heart Institute early today after suffering a heart attack, is stable. Doctors said he was responding well to the treatment.

Jogi was admitted to Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital last night but was later shifted to Escorts as the family felt the facilities at RML were not adequate.

Dr Naresh Trehan, Chief of the Escorts Heart Institute and Research Centre, said the former chief minister’s condition is improving. ‘‘Our team of doctors visited Jogi at RML Hospital and implanted a device to stabilise his heart. Later, he was shifted to Escorts Hospital. His condition is stable and we hope he will progress,’’ Trehan said.

According to doctors, Jogi had blood pressure fluctuations and angina. Jogi has had a history of cardiac problems and according to sources, had a bypass in 1999 in Bangalore.

Jogi, who has been confined to a wheel chair after his accident last year, was recently in news after he endorsed the claims of stem cell treatment at a small-time Delhi fertility clinic. Less than a week ago he had said his health was improving after stem cell therapy.
