Jewellery trader Sanjay Dayal who was kidnapped on Friday night was released today and police have arrested nine persons, including another jeweller Manav Shah, in the case. Police said it was business rivalry that led to the kidnapping.

Meanwhile, police say they have made significant breakthrough in Dr Ramesh Chandra abduction case. Police are confident that they will soon ensure the release of Dr Chandra. The Dayal abduction case was carried out by gangster Rakesh Singh who belongs to Joginder Singh gang, said Patna SSP Sunil Kumar. Joginder Singh is believed to be close to Ram Rathan Singh, former MLA from Barhi in Hazaribagh.

The IMA office-bearers who met CM Rabri Devi, RJD chief Laloo Yadav and DGP D.K. Ojha said they were satisfied with the response of the CM and the police. ‘‘We believe the police are doing their best,’’ said Dr Ajay. No ransom calls has been received yet from anyone, he added.

Laloo said that there was a conspiracy to malign the state and the abductions were carried out with this intention. ‘‘I have known Chandra personally, and we are sure the police is doing a good job,’’ he said.

Laloo said, it was unfair on the doctors’ part to put pressure on the government and police by issuing ultimatums. ‘‘Police should be allowed to work peacefully. Then only they can work efficiently,’’ he said, adding that he is planning a Maharashtra style law to tackle organised crime. Laloo said, organised crime has increased because of cellphone and increasing unemployment. ‘‘I have been saying cellphones should be banned,’’ he said.

Meanwhile, the Bihar branch of the IMA has threatened to paralyse the medical facilities, including emergency services, from May 21 morning if the neuro-surgeon was not rescued by that time.
