NEW DELHI, NOV 11: Union Law Minister Ram Jethmalani today strongly favoured “overhauling” the existing model of criminal justice system instead of going for a new one.

“There is no need for a new model. What we need is to repair the parts which have been eaten up by corrosive substances like incompetence and corruption,” Jethmalani said inaugurating a two-day workshop on New Models of Accessible Justice, Special Focus on Women and Juveniles.

Expressing anguish over “incompetence” in the system including that of “police, prosecutors and judges,” he said, “when there is no incompetence there is corruption and in most cases again it is a combination of both.”

“If a judge is corrupt whatever model you have, it will fail miserably," he remarked stressing on improving of character of individuals.
