MUMBAI, December 15: In one fell swoop the income tax authorities today raided the offices and residences of some of the most well known TV producers. Among the 24 premises raided included those of Dheeraj Kumar, actor and owner of the production company Creative Eye; the Cine Vista group, owned by Prem Kishen and Sunil Mehta, makers of advertising films and TV serials; and actor Jeetendra whose daughter Ekta is the producer of the popular serial Hum Paanch.

Panic-stricken TV sources revealed they had no idea their “relatively low-profile industry” would be the target of I-T authorities. Actor Jeetendra for instance was enjoying the cricket season in Sharjah when the sleuths raided his Juhu residence.

Almost the same time last year I-T authorities had raided leading film personalities like KC Bokadia, Madhuri Dixit’s Pune property and Shah Rukh Khan. Television’s highest paid actor Shekhar Suman’s penthouse at Lokhandwala too was raided today.

Suman reportedly charges Rs 75,000 to Rs one lakh for one day’s shooting. Others caught in the I-T net included The Adhikari brothers, makers of serials like Commander and Damini. The two brothers, Markand and Gautam Adhikari, had recently finalised a deal to buy a building in Andheri MIDC, industry sources inform.

The offices and residence of Heemesh Rashmiya, another producer for Zee, who owns the production outfit, H R Enterprises, were also raided. The officers have found several incriminating documents in the raids that were on till late Monday evening. Large scale inflation of expenditure and unexplained investment in real estate in Mumbai itself were detected from preliminary examination of these documents, sources said.

Dheeraj Kumar is the biggest investor among those raided today. Twenty-four lockers have been put under prohibitory orders, and will be scrutinised only tomorrow.
