Former General Officer Commanding of Tiger Division, Major General Sanjeev Loomba — who relinquished charge of the Division on Wednesday — has ordered a staff court of inquiry after jawans thrashed a doctor for allegedly twice attempting to molest a female patient here. The doctor is a Major. Adjutant Quarter Master General Lt Colonel Ahuja is conducting the inquiry.

Sources said a jawan of 16 Dogra took his pregnant wife to a doctor for routine medical examination in February last. The doctor asked him to wait outside while he examined the patient. The doctor then allegedly bolted the medical investigation room from inside. After they had reached home, the wife told him that the doctor had tried to molest her. The jawan talked to some of his colleagues, who, in turn, asked him to inform them the next time he visits the doctor. On March 1, the jawan again brought his wife for routine check-up and the doctor, as usual, made him move out of the room and bolted the doors from inside. However, as he allegedly tried to molest her again, she cried for help. Her husband, who was waiting outside along with some of his colleagues, forced the doctor to open the door. He and the other jawans then thrashed the doctor in full public view for half an hour. Senior Army officers had to intervene to rescue the Major. Lt Colonel Ahuja, who is investigating the matter, refused to comment as it might jeopardise the inquiry.
