Loyalty, hard work and ability to flow along with the current made up Basappa Datta Jatti, former Vice-President and President (Acting), the successful politician that he was.
Jatti, who passed away in a hospital in Bangalore today, was born in a poor farmer’s family at Savalgi, a village in Jamakhandi taluk of Bijapur district, on September 12, 1912, he went on to hold the country’s highest office.
Educated and hard working, Jatti knew there was nothing that would hold him back from pursuing his ambitions.
He took active part in the Quit India Movement.
In 1943, he became president of the Jamakhandi Municipality.
His education and hard work got him a ministerial post in Jamakhandi Samsthana, which was later merged with Maharashtra.
