NAGANO (JAPAN), January 1: Nagano Olympic organisers used a traditional new year’s day Buddhist rite here today to pray for snow which has been limited apparently by the El Nino weather phenomena.

"I sincerly prayed for the success of the Nagano Olympics and for more snowfalls," said Makoto Kobayashi, director general of the Nagano Organising Committee. With 37 days to go before the opening of the Games, he led about 25 NAOC executives to the 1,400-year-old Zenkoji Temple in the middle of this apple-growing Japanese Alps region.
