Around 1,000 male students of Jamia Millia Islamia who have been asked to vacate their hostel in December for a month are now faced with getting alternate accommodation in the area, with landlords still reluctant to let out places to students from the university.

A student, on condition of anonymity, said that as the Batla House encounter is still fresh in their minds, students might have a hard time finding a house in Jullena or Batla House area. Another student also said that though the last date for vacating the hostel premises has been declared, the date for re-entry to hostels has not been mentioned in the notice signed by all wardens.

Last month, the university asked the students to vacate premises so that guests could be accommodated for the Thirty-second Session of the Indian Social Science Congress from December 18 to 22.

A student, however, told Newsline that centres like Law and Architecture have their exams scheduled in December.
