A police constable is on the run in Ganderbal for allegedly raping a 17-year-old domestic help in his house, who later became pregnant. His wife — also a constable — is also absconding and the J-K Police have launched a hunt to arrest the couple.

The police said that Constable Abdul Aziz Dar and his wife Rifat Jan had forced the domestic help to abort the child in a bid to hush up the crime. The J-K Police said that it registered a case against the couple after the girl’s parents complained about her rape and subsequent abortion.

“The girl was allegedly raped soon after she was hired by Dar. She conceived but didn’t disclose this to anyone,” said SHO Ganderbal, Khursheed Ahmed.

Recently, the girl was unwell and after she was taken to a hospital by her parents the doctors told them that she was pregnant. Police sources said that Dar and his wife forced her to abort the baby at some unknown nursing home.
