MUMBAI, SEPT 5: Continuing his daily Sonia Gandhi soap opera, BJP leader Pramod Mahajan today said that he had nothing personal against her.

Addressing a thinly attended roadside meeting outside Chembur railway station in North-Eastern Mumbai where he was campaigning for BJP’s Kirit Somaiya, Mahajan denied having denigrated womanhood with his remarks. “In Atalji’s case, one can understand, he’s unmarried. But in my case, I’m married, I wouldn’t be able to enter my house if I insult women, ” he told the gathering.

The party had nothing against her during all the years she lived in India. But it was only after she entered politics last year that they began opposing her, like they would any other opposition leader. In the same breath, he attributed the remarks on Priyanka and Rahul as a direct result of Sonia having brought them into politics. “I haven’t mentioned Sharad Pawar’s daughter even once because she isn’t in politics, but that’s not the case with Rahul and Priyanka,” he said. Mahajan thenproceeded to poke fun at Priyanka’s `Mummy loves Bellary’ remarks with a “It’s like saying I love Cadbury chocolates.” He said that Sonia had stayed in India for 18 years as an Italian citizen and became an Indian citizen only after Sanjay Gandhi’s death in 1980.
