AGRA, NOV 4: Prime Minister A B Vajpayee’s sister, Kamla Dixit, is enraged at the way her daughter-in-law Nirmala has been treated by the local BJP unit. According to Dixit, the city unit of the party had initially approved Nirmala’s candidature for the coming local body elections, but yesterday, when she went to file her nomination at the collectorate, her name was nowhere in the list.

Nirmala’s name had apparently been proposed by Uttar Pradesh BJP president Kalraj Mishra himself. Later, Nirmala had gone to meet Vajpayee, and the latter too had endorsed her candidature, wishing her all the best.

Dixit accused three BJP leaders of Agra of being responsible for yesterday’s embarrassment. She told The Indian Express that it was BJP leaders who had come to Nirmala asking her to contest the polls, and that they had not gone seeking a ticket.

Initially, Krishna Birmani was listed as a candidate in place of Nirmala. Yesterday, the buzz around the collectorate was that Birmani’s name had been recommended by none other than Union Home Minister L.K. Advani as she was from the same caste as him. When it came out that Birmani was not even listed in the electoral rolls, her name was struck off the candidates’ list, and Asha Vohra found herself included.

Vohra is apparently the choice of an RSS leader. An enraged Dixit says this shows that the BJP is playing second-fiddle to the RSS in Agra. It is very sad, she adds, that the Prime Minister does not have any authority over party matters and that the RSS controls the BJP.

Dixit has reportedly complained to the Prime Minister and Mishra on the matter. The UP BJP chief is said to have called up the local leaders seeking an explanation.
