NAIROBI, October 8 YUVRAJ SINGH, whose 84 runs in his first international innings on Saturday was the highlight of Indian win over Australia in a quarter-final match of the ICC knock-out tournament here, says its his positive attitude and natural strokeplay that keep him in good stead on the big occasions.
Yuvraj attributes success to `positive attitude’Yuvraj, who hit 12 fours in his delightful 80-ball knock, told PTI on Sunday he was not intimidated by the formidable reputation of Glenn McGrath, Brett Lee and Jason Gillespie and went about playing naturally. “I concentrated on my batting. The wicket was good too. I just tried to stay positive and be natural,” he said.
However, the Punjab youngster admitted he was slightly nervous for the first three or four balls he faced. “But then, after I hit those two fours, I was comfortable. I never felt any kind of pressure thereafter.”
Yuvraj, who started his Ranji Trophy career with a duck against Orissa in 1997, said he had worked very hard on his fielding and tried to improve all the time.
The hard work paid off yesterday, when he took a brilliant catch to dismiss Ian Harvey and then ran out Michael Bevan off a direct hit.
The teenager said his father Yograj, himself an international cricketer, had been the greatest influence on his career.
“He is the main reason why I am playing cricket today.”
