Government said that the CSO’s 8.1 per cent growth projection for this year was ‘in conformity’ with what Finance Minister had forecast in the Interim Budget. ‘‘What is significant is that the 8.1 per cent growth projection is not only because of good agricultural growth on the back of good monsoon but also marked improvement in the manufacturing and services sector,’’ Finance Secretary D.C. Gupta said. He also did not agree with the criticism that the high growth this year will be difficult to sustain as the growth this fiscal was on a low base of four per cent last year. In the past also, the economy had maintained high growth of over seven per cent for the three years beginning 1995-96, he said. (PTI)
