MANCHESTER, NOV 19: Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak escaped unhurt when a jet carrying him and his party collided with a baggage truck on the tarmac at Manchester airport, officials today said.

The Israeli air force Boeing 707 was manoeuvring during a refuelling stop when the accident happened late yesterday. An airport spokeswoman said the driver of the truck was taken to hospital as a precaution but later allowed home.

There were no casualties on board the aircraft, which was still at the airport this morning, awaiting an inspection. Barak was taken to a secret location for the night. It was not immediately clear where he was travelling to. The plane had landed in Manchester after a flight from Istanbul where the Israeli leader attended the European security conference.
