JERUSALEM, JAN 24: Israel today decided to suspend peace negotiations with the Palestinians until after the funerals of two Israelis killed in the West Bank town of Tulkarem, Israeli television reported.
There was no immediate confirmation from the office of Prime Minister Ehud Barak.
The two sides have been in intensive negotiations since Sunday in the Egyptian resort of Taba in a bid to strike a peace deal, with time running out ahead of an election to choose a new Israeli Prime Minister on February 6.
The bodies of two Israelis were found near the Palestinian ruled town of Tulkarem today and have been handed over to the army, Palestinian officials said.
Initially, the town’s governor said they were soldiers, but an Israeli official said they were civilians.
