Israel has said it feared a possible terror attack in Goa during New Year’s eve celebration in which thousand of Israelis are expected to participate.‘‘National Security Council and the counter-terrorism headquarters (of Israel) approached us (foreign ministry) after making an assessment about the possibility of a terror attack taking place on the beaches of Goa during huge celebrations on New Year’s eve where, we believe, there would be many Israelis,’’ an official of the Israeli foreign ministry said here yesterday.‘‘Based on this assessment we have conveyed these concerns to the Israeli embassy in New Delhi and the Israeli consulate in Mumbai to convey the same to the relevant authorities in India,’’ the officials said.Official sources said Israel, while refraining from directly requesting India for increased security, has also conveyed the same concern to other western embassies in India hoping that the authorities would strengthen the security in and around Goa beaches. It is believed that the Israeli decision to convey such concern stems from the recent attacks in Mombassa. About 25,000 Israelis visit India every year and Goa is one of the most favoured destinations for them. The ‘‘trance’’ music parties and ‘‘full moon’’ parties are particularly popular with Israelis.
