CHANDIGARH, April 21: Two local golfers – Irina Brar and Guneet Reikhy – are among the three-member team which will represent the country in the Asia-Pacific Junior championship to be held at Myanmar (Burma) from May 4 to 7.

Both Irina and Guneet were selected on the basis of performance during the Chandigarh Open Ladies golf meet which was held here recently at the Chandigarh Golf Club. The third member of the team is Ayesha Kapur of Delhi.

The local girls are also expected to attend a training session in Delhi from April 25 to 30.

Irina, who finished runners-up in the last edition of the meet held at Bangkok is confident of bagging the top slot this time. “I am playing good golf. I hope to win the title,” said Irina.

Guneet, whose handicap has just come down to seven from eight, it will be her first appearance at the international level. She is also hoping to give her best. “I am going abroad for the first time, so I am very excited. I am training hard for the event,” said Guneet.

Guneet played within her limit and also brought in a creditable round of six over par, 78 after the second round in the Chandigarh Open. Irina Brar had asked for exemption due to personal reasons. Now, she completes the team of three that is all set to carry their bags and play good golf.
