Heavy rain stopped play in the World Cup Group D match between West Indies and Ireland at Sabina Park, with the Irish team 161 for six in the 46th over.

The West Indies put in a disciplined bowling performnce as Ireland began poorly. William Porterfield was out in just the second over, giving a simple catch to Chris Gayle at first slip off Daren Powell. Jeremy Bray provided some resistance, notching up 41, attacking anything pitched short. But with no one else to provide resistance, and the disciplined fielding from the West Indies ensurd that runs were hard to come by. Powell and Gayle took two wickets apiece.

Earlier, Ireland captain Kyle McCallan won the toss and chose to bat first. McCallan was leading the team in the absence of regular skipper Trent Johnston, who was sidelined because of a shoulder injury sustained in Ireland8217;s win over Pakistan.
