Iran said UN nuclear inspectors had begun installing surveillance equipment at a sensitive nuclear plant near the central city of Isfahan on Monday, and said in its view activities at the plant had restarted. ‘‘IAEA inspectors in Isfahan in cooperation with Iran’s atomic energy organisation experts are carrying out executive activities such as setting up surveillance cameras and preparing supervision work,’’ Supreme National Security Council spokesman Ali Aghamohammadi said. ‘‘This process will take time, but in our view the uranium conversion facility has been restarted,’’ he said.

The ‘‘EU3’’, Britain, France and Germany, have been trying to mediate between the US and the Islamic Republic. With Iran’s defiance of the EU, two years of hard bargaining over its nuclear programme has been sent into crisis. Reuters
