June 2: A two-day seminar on the role of Imam Khomeini on the role of women in society and the revitalization of Islam in the modern age will kick off on June four, the Imam’s ninth death anniversary, at Y B Chavan Pratishthan.The meet has been organised by the Consulate General of Iran to create awareness among people about Islam in general and about Ayatollah Khomeini in particular. “We want to erase the image that Islam supports terrosim or promotes religionism. We are not terrorists, and nor do Muslims propogate violence. This perception has to be changed, hence the meet,” said Basharat Shikoh, an Urdu columnist, at a press conference today. “Moreover, today, there is an inferiority complex amongst Muslims, particularly in India, which we are trying to rid them of,” he added.

Said Ahmed Shawani First Counsel at at the Iran consulate, “This seminar will go a long way to improving Indo-Iranian relations.

The show will include a presentation by Farideh Mostafavi, daughter of the late Khomeini. Thewomen’s meet on June 5 will deal with the empowerment of women, specially Indian Muslim women. Eminent women personalities will present papers on various issues faced by Indian Muslims. Dr Ishaq Zamkhanwala, educationist, said all the papers would be compiled and translated into Urdu and distributed among mullahs in various mosques.
