VADODARA, May 18: The Indian Petrochemicals Corporation Limited IPCL was on Monday evening forced to close down its Proly Propylene PP plant following a flash strike by employees of the unit.
According to highly placed sources, nearly 80 persons working at the plant site have been demanding toilet and cabin facilities among other things. The employees went on strike on Monday afternoon forcing the management to shut the plant for safety reasons at around 8 pm, sources added.

When contacted General Manager Operations S K Maine refused to comment saying he was in a meeting. Sources said the meeting continued till late on Monday night with employees associated with the Indian Union Trade Congress ITUC.
The Proly Butadine Rubber PBR plant and the PP plant together manufacture 210 metric tonnes of products daily.
Sources further said as the employees went on strike, the management could not start the PBR plant, which was not functioning for the past some time. The plant was scheduled to restart from Monday and a team from abroad was in the city for the purpose.
