Based on wireless intercepts made in the last 72 hours, security agencies claimed today the two suicide bombers who attacked the Sunjwan Army camp were Pakistani nationals. Though no identity card or other documents was recovered from them, security agencies, which intercepted communication between two militant commanders, said the commanders identified the slain militants as Abu Hurera and Abu Kital of Pakistan. Sources said one intercept was made on Sunday night, a day after the Sunjwan carnage, while the other was made yesterday. On both occasions, a commander was stationed in Pakistan and the other was on this side of the border. The commander, who was speaking from Indian soil, disclosed the names of the militants as Abu Hurera and Abu Kital, saying: ‘‘Action kiya tha; kamyabi bhi mili magar dono shahadat pa gaye (Success was achieved in the action but the two were killed.)’’ He exaggerated the number of Army personnel saying 30 were killed instead of 12. The other militant commander was heard saying, ‘‘Bach ke rehna, suna hai security forces bahut bare paimane pe operation shuru kar rahi hain. (Be careful as security forces are reported to be starting an operation on a large scale.)’’ Sources said security agencies worked fast on the inputs, which they received through wireless sets and came to know that Hurera was active in Surankote area of Poonch, and Kital in Doda’s Banihal. The two were summoned by a militant commander in Mahore. After a meeting, the commander assigned them to strike the Sunjwan camp. After the attack on Kaluchak Army camp on May 14 last year, Sunjwan camp was on the hit-list and from time to time, intelligence agencies had alerted Army. Irshad, a Pakistani national arrested near Sunjwan last year, had also made disclosures in this regard. Irshad too was sent by a militant commander from Mahore to recce the Sunjwan camp and to make contacts. He had even tried to rope in former National Conference MLA Abdul Wahid Shan, but the latter had approached police. Irshad’s arrest had led to the arrest of others. After the Sunjwan incident, police teams continue to maintain ‘‘enhanced’’ vigil in Sunjwan, Bhatindi and Raika.
