The Indian Newspaper Society has condemned the move by Centre for Indian Trade Unions in West Bengal to suspend distribution of newspapers in Kolkata on August 8. 8220;This decision, we are informed, has been taken to extend support to a strike espousing the cause of unorganised sector workers scheduled that day,8221; said a statement issued on Thursday. 8220;Never before has distribution of newspapers been suspended on the occasion of a strike or a bandh, and it is indeed surprising that CITU should resort to this drastic action to block the free flow of information to readers,8221; it added. The INS has appealed to leaders of the Left Front, the Communist Party of India Marxist and the CITU to not resort to this grossly undemocratic action.
