The industry has begun to feel the heat of the transporters’ nationwide strike. The strike completed its second day on Sunday even as conflicting reports came in from different parts of the country over its success.

CII expressed ‘‘deep concern at the adverse impact’’ the strike will have. Called by the All India Motor Transport Congress (AIMTC), the strike is against the FM’s plan to cover them under service tax. ‘‘At a time when the economy is growing steadily, the transporters’ strike would have a major, negative impact,’’ CII said.

Assocham said the strike has disrupted supplies of essential commodities. It has also ‘‘started thwarting the deliveries of export orders.’’ Both CII and Assocham called for urgent steps to resolve the impasse.

AIMTC issued a statement on Sunday declaring it would henceforth hold discussions only with the finance secretary or the finance minister on the issue of service tax. They said talks with the revenue secretary and the Central Board of Excise and Customs had not produced any fruitful result.
