JAKARTA, FEBRUARY 10: Indonesia’s former President Suharto has been declared as a suspect in an investigation into alleged corruption in charities he controlled, the attorney-general’s office said today.
“Today we are sending out a letter to former president Suharto… He is being summoned as a suspect,” spokesman Suhandoyo told Reuters.
It is the first time the former leader has formally been declared a suspect over graft allegations. The move represents a stepping up of the investigation against him.
Suhandoyo said investigators planned to question Suharto, who has denied any wrongdoing, on Monday.
