SHARJAH April 10: India hope their sensational 20-run victory over England last night to galvanise the side as they gear up to meet the same rivals tomorrow in the opening tie of the second round of league clashes in the Coca Cola tri-series cricket tournament here.

The spirit shown by the Indian players, affected by viral infection to five players and with skipper Mohd Azharuddin off the field with a toe injury suffered while batting, has given much hope to their fans that they have the potential to overcome arch-rivals Pakistan.

Pakistan, with two straight wins have virtually made it to the April 16 final while India need one more win to seal a spot in the summit clash.

England need to win their remaining matches to fancy their chances of making the final.

Wicket-keeper Nayan Mongia, who required five stitches on his lower lip after being struck by an Anil Kumble kicker is likely to play tomorrow while Azhar is also expected to lead the side after escaping with only a bruise on his left toe afterbeing struck by a yorker from paceman Darren Gough.

The Indians have been badly affected by the absence of maestro Sachin Tendulkar due to back injury, viral fever to Nikhil Chopra, Vinod Kambli, Amay Khurasia, Mongia and Ajit Agarkar.

But the cricket board, which flew in Hrishkesh Kanitkar on the team management’s request, has decided against bringing in any more replacements with board sources saying the five players have recovered from the viral infection and will be available for selection tomorrow.
