The four day match between Indians and Essex ended in a tame draw with the hosts reaching 186 for three in their second innings on the final day today.

Faced with a near impossible target of 565 in 60 possible overs, Essex were helped by opener Richard Clinton (53) in their effort to save the match.

SCOREBOARD

At stumps R Bopara (47) and B Hyam (16) were the unbeaten batsmen after Andy Flower retired hurt on 23. Indians declared their second innings at 327 for six at lunch. Essex had made 279 in their first innings replying to Indians 516.

Clinton batted sensibly and faced 104 balls hitting six fours before he was the second batsman out with the total on 97, caught off the bowling of part-time spinner Virender Sehwag.
