HARTFORD (CONNECTICUT), NOV 19: The top-seeded duo of Mahesh Bhupathi and Leander Paes and the second-seeded tandem of Todd Woodbridge and Mark Woodforde clinched semifinal spots on Thursday at the ATP Tour World Doubles Championships.

The Indian pair improved to 2-0 in the round robin as they got past third seeds Ellis Ferreira of South Africa and Rick Leach of the United States 6-4, 6-4 in a Gold Group match.

The seventh-seeded duo of Haarhuis and Palmer also improved to 1-1 by defeating fifth-seeded South Africans David Adams and John-Laffnie De Jager 6-4 7-5 in the Green Group. Adams and De Jager fell to 0-2.

Ferreira/Leach and Black/Stolle, both 1-1 in the Gold Group, faced must-win matches on Friday in the last match of round robin play to remain alive for a semi-final berth. Ferreira/Leach were to meet Norval/Ullyett, and Black/Stolle faced Bhupathi/Paes.

Lareau/O’Brien and Haarhuis/Palmer, each also 1-1 in the Green Group, were to square off on Friday.
