Indian workers beaten up in Bahrain

Two Indian workers suffered severe head injuries in Bahrain after they were beaten up by their sponsor.

Two Indian workers from Kerala suffered severe head injuries in Bahrain after they were allegedly beaten up by their sponsor for demanding their annual leave and other dues.

T Raji and T Manikandan suffered severe head injuries and their arms were fractured after their Bahraini sponsor allegedly beat them with a wooden plank and then a shovel.

Both were among 11 Indian masons, who were demanding two-month annual leave and payment of last month’s salary, the Gulf News reported.

The Incident was confirmed by the Indian Embassy officials. It took place on Sunday, officials said. The other nine workers include J Rathish, S Suresh, P Ramesh, A Vishwanath, R Srikumar, A Suresh, A Silvan and K Rajesh, they added.

The workers all from Kerala came to Bahrain in 2006 on a two-year contract had filed a complaint at the Indian Embassy against the sponsor.

Both Raji and Manikandan have decided to go back home as they reportedly reached a settlement with the sponsor.
