Chennai, April 8: Missing last week’s Davis Cup tie against Italy in Genoa still rankles Leander Paes. “We had a chance to win had I played,” he told The Indian Express, here on Wednesday.

In the same breath, he made a telling point that the entire episode, with India sending just three instead of four players, to Genoa, reflected the lop-sidedness of the tennis system.

“The country can’t depend on just two of us all the time. I mean, what happens if both Hesh and I are injured ? We need a system which will throw up second rung of players.”
