NEW DELHI, July 21: Indian sub-junior boxers put up a good show by winning five bouts and drawing another in a duel with host pugilists at a training-cum-competition stint now under way in Germany. Eight of the 10 Indian boxers were in the fray and two of them lost their bouts at Cottbus town, information received by Indian Amateur Boxing Federation here said.
In the 45 kg class, Arun Singh forced the referee to stop the contest in the thrid round against Fritsch Marco and Elvis Bestervitch. A Karnataka lad attached to the MEG Boys Company, Arun Singh beat Dittrich Ronny 8-4 on points.
In the 42 kg, Manoj Sah drew a well-fought bout with Terrulu Matthias 15-all. Khemanand Belwal scored an impressive 20-6 points verdict over Hurias Stefan but Diwakar Prasad went down to Pluskwig Manuel by a close 8-10 margin in the 48 kg class. In 51 kg, Ziaur Rehman outboxed Zirck Ronny 9-2 while Mustafa Kamal downed Meister Christopher 19-4 on points in 54 kg class, which also saw A L Lakra go down 5-19 to Enrico Wagner.
A 28-member junior and sub-junior squad with 10 boxers in either section are currently in Germany for training and competition. The junior squad is also undergoing joint training with the German national side. They will take part in the Brendenburg Cup tournament to be held at on Oder, Frankfurt, from July 29. The tour ends on August 1.
