DUBAI, January 20: Defending champions India and hosts United Arab Emirates (UAE) marched into the final of the Third Rashid International Volleyball Championship with emphatic semi-final wins here last night.

Spurred on by the deafening cheers of a near capacity crowd of expatriate Indians at the Al Shabab Indoor Stadium, India outclassed Lebanon 15-7, 15-10, 15-10 in straight sets.

In the other semi-final, the UAE Seniors had little difficulty in disposing Poland’s under-19 squad 15-10, 15-9, 15-10.

India and the UAE were easily the best-equipped teams in the tournament and had reached the last four by topping their groups with 3-0 records.

The final is slated for Tuesday night after the play-off for the third and fourth places between the losing semi-finalists.

Ashish Arora, who put in an all-round performance and came up with some surprise taps at the net which flummoxed the Lebanese mid-court receivers, got the Man of the Match award.
