Indian Sikhs to attend Baisakhi celebrations in Pak gurdwara

About 3,000 Indian Sikhs are expected to participate in religious ceremonies associated with the annual ‘Baisakhi’ festival at the famous Punja Sahib Gurdwara in Pakistan’s central Punjab province.

Arrangements for the Sikh pilgrims, who will arrive by a special train from Lahore on April 12, were reviewed at a meeting held at Hasanabdal town, where the gurdwara is situated.

The meeting was informed that besides the Indians, over 12,000 Sikh pilgrims from across Pakistan and other foreign countries will participate in the Baisakhi festival on April 13. The celebrations will end on April 14.

The Sikh pilgrims from abroad will be accommodated at the Punja Sahib Gurdwara while those from Pakistan will stay in state-run schools.

The meeting, which was attended by officials of the police department and Evacuee Property Trust Board, also reviewed security arrangements for the festival.

Entry to the gurdwara has been restricted to persons who have been issued entry permits by the Special Branch of police.
