Indian Open golf tournament gets $1 mn prize

“Hero Honda has enjoyed a long and rewarding association with the Indian Open. We have been increasing the prize money by USD 100,000 each year from 2005 onwards and now the Hero Honda Indian Open has become a million dollar tournament,” Pawan Munjal, MD and CEO of Hero Honda Motors said.

“This is a reflection of our strong commitment to the promotion of the game in the country. We will continue to keep increasing the prize money in the coming years, thereby making the Hero Honda Indian Open grow in stature. I am sure the event will now attract more marquee players from the international arena, which will add to its increasing popularity,” he said.

Asian Tour Executive Chairman Kyi Hla Han also lauded the increase in the tournament’s prize fund and said, “It is a wonderful reflection of the growth of professional golf in India and across Asia.
