HONG KONG, JULY 11: Malaysia and Pakistan stormed into the men’s final with one-sided victories over Hong Kong and India respectively in the 10th Asian Squash Team Championship at the Hong Kong Squash Centre on Tuesday.

Indian men play Hong Kong for the third place play-off on Wednesday morning. In the women’s section, India blanked Sri Lanka 3-0 in just 37 minutes in the 5-6 play-off match and will take on Korea for the fifth place.

Vaidehi Reddy required only 12 minutes for her 9-0, 9-1, 9-1 victory over Darshika Kempitiya, Mekhala Subedar was even better in her 9-0, 9-0, 9-0 rout of Sulakshana Dias and Deepali Anvekar beat Kushani Daluwatte 9-3, 9-7 (best of three).

Indian women’s team coach Bhuvaneswari Kumari hoped the team would finish fifth. “Our best performance was the third place in 1990 and 1992 when I played.

Last time we came fifth,” she said. Malaysia will meet Hong Kong in the women’s final. Malaysia and Hong Kong defeated Singapore and Japan by identical 3-0 margins in the semifinals.
