…knowledge taking root in our villages. Governments have stressed 7-8 per cent growth rates, the welfare of farmers, and unleashing the creativity of entrepreneurs, scientists, engineers. This opportunity must be used to bridge the rural-urban divide.
…the wellbeing of all our citizens. We’ll empower through policies that create employment and viable livelihoods. That wellbeing, defined in economic, social, cultural terms, is best ensured in the framework of an open society and an open economy.
…a socially, economically, politically empowered India, which is technologically advanced, industrially developed, and made up of self-sufficient villages. Where every section of our population has an equal stake in the country’s future.
…that every Indian adult is able to earn his livelihood with dignity. Every adult has a say in governing the country, and everyone’s voice is heard and cared for. Every citizen becomes an asset and contributes in his own way to nation building.

…empowering our women. All 496 million of them, and not merely by enacting laws. Male attitudes have not changed, and won’t merely by making laws; it takes enlightened understanding. In other words, you need meaningful education.

…building world class infrastructure. We’ve shown we can adapt technology and business structures to the unique needs of the Indian market. We must take this to the next level by creating sustainable propositions for rural India.
…leaders driving change. It has been aptly said that “fortune favours the prepared mind”. It will be those who lead their employees to imbibe new skills and provide training as a means to learn and empower who can claim to be masters of the universe.
…being accountable and demanding accountability. In some areas, India has made great progress, and the world has started taking notice. We can accelerate this process if each of us can determine the areas where we can make a difference.
