India targets to export 150 lakh tonnes of foodgrains (100 lakh tonnes of wheat and 50 lakh tonnes of rice) from the central pool during 2002-2003. This was stated by Union Food Minister Shanta Kumar.

He added that the Food Corporation of India has so far received payment for 105 lakh tonnes of foodgrains (66.23 lakh tonnes of wheat and 38.91 lakh tonnes of rice) meant for export. The export earnings in this regard will be over Rs 5,000 crore.

Also the current crop wheat will be made available to exporters for the purpose of export with effect from June 1, 2002 at Rs 4,350 per tonne.
