For RJD chief Laloo Prasad Yadav, the controversies surrounding Union Minister for Civil Aviation Rajiv Pratap Rudy are a godsend. This because Laloo has decided to fight from Chapra — Rudy’s seat. In normal circumstances also Rudy would have found it tough to take on Laloo.
Speaking about it, the RJD chief said that Rudy’s ‘‘misuse of AAI is going to be one of the campaign issues’’ for the RJD. ‘‘He ate one plate of chicken which cost Rs 900. This happened in a country where people are dying of hunger,’’ the former chief minister of Bihar said.
Laloo added that Rudy is a worth disciple of Prime Minister A.B. Vajpayee who had ‘‘booked 40 rooms in Goa last year for the New Year’’.
Taking a dig at the India Shining campaign, Laloo said that it was the biggest fraud by the NDA government. ‘‘Where is India shining? Only the cheeks of the ministers are shining. When they became ministers their faces were like Margo soap, but now some are shining like Lux and others like Pears. If you eat Rs 900 a plate chicken this will happen,’’ Laloo, energised by the sight of his rival in a soup, said.
‘‘India is not shining for the unemployed youth and farmers,’’ the former chief minister said.
The RJD chief also claimed that the BJP had raised more than Rs 500 crore, most of it from the Prime Minister’s Golden Quadrilateral project, to be pumped in the election campaign.
