JALANDHAR, July 12: Eminent journalist and Rajya Sabha member Kuldip Nayyar today said that Prime Ministers of both India and Pakistan should sign a pact on “no-first-use” of nuclear weapons to restore the confidence of the people of the subcontinent.

Delivering a lecture on the impact of nuclear blasts in South Asia, organised by the Punjabi Jagriti Manch here today, Nayyar said the two Prime Ministers should work towards improving ties between the countries, which “is the only way to move towards peace and normalcy in South Asia.” Also, there should be a moratorium on future nuclear tests by both the countries, he added.

Nayyar said if the blasts could lead to reconciliation between the two countries, these would prove to be a blessing in disguise.Stressing that the Kashmir issue must be resolved at the earliest, Nayyar said third party mediation was required to solve the Kashmir problem and the will of the Kashmiris would have to be taken into consideration.
