BANGALORE, SEPT 14: French Ambassador Bernard de Montferrand denied that the Mirage 2000 fighter aircraft deal was enmeshed in controversy.

Speaking to mediapersons after delivering a speech at the SIATI-GIFAS interaction meeting organised by HAL here on Wednesday, Montferrand said that there was absolutely no controversy and India was desperately in need of these world class fighter planes. “Already the Indian Air Force have these aircraft and there was no problem at all,” he stated.

Referring to the sale of a 50-seater ATR 42-500 aircraft, he said the negotiations in this regard were in final stages and if there was a demand for the aircraft, the company would go ahead and establish its manufacturing line in the country.
