.

India and Iran are expected to sign a protocol on setting up a Joint Working Group (JWG) on terrorism and security during the on-going visit of Indian Home Secretary N. Gopalaswami to Tehran.

Gopalaswami is on a four-day visit to Iran to finalise a JWG that also focuses on Al Qaeda activity in Afghanistan. Extensive talks on the issue were held during Iranian President Mohammad Khatami’s recent visit to India.

‘‘The Home Secretary has gone for final round of talks with officials, including the Deputy Interior Minister. The JWG is likely to be constituted during this visit itself,’’ sources in the ministry of Home Affairs said. The main purpose of establishing the JWG is to share intelligence activities of Al Qaeda in Afghanistan.
