India on Monday hoped for an early and full restoration of democracy in Bangladesh.
Responding to reports of the arrest of former Prime Minister of Bangladesh Begum Khalida Zia, the spokesperson of the Ministry of External Affairs said: “We would hope that the people of Bangladesh will be enabled to choose their representatives in a free, fair and democratic process.”
India’s response was in line with its reaction to the arrest of former Prime Minister of Bangladesh Sheikh Hasina on July 15 when it said it is “our expectation that the people of Bangladesh will be able to participate in a process leading up to a free, fair, credible and democratic election”.
