NEW DELHI, October 22: Indian hopes of getting a Grand Prix athletic meet title for the first time have been dashed with the International Amateur Athletic Federation (IAAF) not including India in the venues chosen for 1998.

The IAAF Council and Grand Prix Commission, which met at Budapest on October 9, finalised the venues for both GP I and GP II, retaining the same venues as last year in case of the latter. India has, however, been awarded a permit for this year, though it had not applied for the same.

Cricket for blind

CUTTACK: India will host the first ever World Cup cricket tournament for the blind in Delhi in December next year, according to KR Rajendra, vice-president of the Association for Cricket for the Blind in India (ACBI).

England, Australia, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, South Africa, New Zealand and India will participate in the first edition of the championship, Rajendra told today.

The ACBI was also making arrangements for holding the first Asia Cup cricket tournament for the blind at Gwalior in December next with teams from India, Sri Lanka and Pakistan participating.The Indian team would be picked after the National Championship to be held at Hyderabad next month.

Vizag to host

MUMBAI: The senior National volleyball championship for men and women is to be held at Vishakapatnam from December 14-21.The dates and venues of the National League are yet to be decided, according to MS Barve, member of the Development and Public Relations Committee of the Volleyball Federation of India (VFI) here today. Meanwhile, the state volleyball association has decided to conduct the Maharashtra Inter-district championship at Nagpur from November 4-9.
