Cricket fervour claims one
SAMBALPUR: World Cup cricket fever claimed its firstvictim in Orissa while India was demolishing Kenya in distant Bristol Sunday. A crowd of excited fans watching the tie on television at a paan shop at Remed, about ten km from here, protested when the owner wanted to close for the day, police said. An altercation ensued, and one angry spectator stabbed two relatives of the owner. One of them died this morning.
VCA official kills himself
NAGPUR: Venkat Mudaliar, a former secretary of Vidarbha Cricket Association VCA, allegedly committed suicide by jumping before a train here, police said today. Mudaliar died on May 15 after he was crushed to pieces by the Nagpur-Bhusaval Passenger in South Nagpur. However, due to lack of identification, the police could not trace the antecedents of the person for a week.
